Established in 1936, The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) is a non-profit trade association. We have an education foundation (c)(3) - The Moving & Storage Institute. Our membership includes 4,200 professional movers who move household goods interstate (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a secure warehouse.

Vice President, Finance and Administration

?

The influential and seasoned leader we seek will determine policy on all accounting/auditing, financial, budget and investment activities, plus incorporate central service functions: office services, purchasing, printing, mail operations, network and building systems and personnel. Our success is measured by AMSA?s strong financial and HR systems that rival those of other top notch trade associations. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Finance, Budget and Audit Committee, the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, you will also provide administrative support for all staff activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide management and support to departments with a $4.2 million revenue budget
  • Manage $3.6 million in overhead expenses
  • Manage $7 million in investments ($1 million ? corporate; $6 million ? pension), HR and central service functions for 21 employees
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and practices related to network infrastructure of 5 servers, 25 VoIP phones, 24 PCs/Laptops, 3 networked Xerox copiers/printers, 20+ printers, 6 facsimile machines, and other peripheral hardware and software
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process related to the company?s administration needs
  • Manage three employees, including a CPA
  • Budgeting, analysis and financial management of actual results to budget and support for all financial-related initiatives and investment activities
  • High level development and insurance of security, efficiency and continuous functioning of the organization?s computer capability and management systems, including accounting software and membership database software
  • Direct internal management functions, including office services, printing, personnel, purchasing, accounting and building services
  • Provide Human Relations administration, including all payroll activities as well as negotiate, approve and implement employee benefits and liaise with outside Human Resource consultants
  • Provide planning, analysis and policy for AMSA?s Defined Benefit pension plan, as well as discussion of strategies and assumptions used by actuaries
  • Personally handle activities relating to payroll administration using Insperity?s payroll services, ensuring correct information, withholdings, deductions and related activities

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor?s or Master?s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Management Information Systems
  • General knowledge of day-to-day Human Resource activities and issues
  • Experience working for a non-profit organization is strongly preferred
  • Conversant in network architecture, including hardware and software
  • Experience managing issues related to a frozen Defined Benefit Pension Plan and impact on AMSA finances and contributions
  • Capable of system analysis and development, including planning the utilization of systems, data processing and procedures, facilities and equipment to improve the efficiency of operations; then, implementation and monitoring/maintenance of same
  • Capable of multi-tasking and keeping confidences
  • Proficient at systems analysis
  • Ability to bring a high degree of integrity to relations with staff, oversight committees and Board
  • A natural leader who can effectively work with others to build consensus
