Do you know someone who is interested in becoming an owner but feels maybe their age is a factor? Kalen Gaetz, 26, and Brandy Newbery, 22, figured being relatively young was actually on their side when opening up the new Mr. Rooter? plumbing shop in Kamloops, British Columbia, in Canada.
?We feel it is easier to take the risks associated with plumbing, and business in general, when you are younger and don?t have a family competing for your attention,? Kalen says.
He owned a successful plumbing business before he worked at Mr. Rooter in both Calgary and Kelowna. Kalen decided to branch out on his own again and moved to Kamloops to open a shop where a Mr. Rooter was needed.
Brandy comes from an accounting background, and coupled with her being from the area, will be able to use the knowledge and skill set for managing the office and marketing efforts.
?There are some challenges that may be associated with age ? mainly on the financial end, but we pushed through, and with the help of the corporate staff we were able to set up on time,? Kalen says.
Brandy added, ?The sooner you start your own business, and actually follow the system, the more set up you will be down the road to fulfill other goals such as starting a family.?
